The Currents Center for Recreation and Creativity will be designed as an
adaptive multiuse facility that is "a confluence of active opportunities for all"
General Floor Plan
The vision for the community center includes:
A flexible, multi-use space to support healthy lifestyles in an atmosphere that is multigenerational and inclusive.
Space for recreational and social programs for all ages, income and ability levels.
The community center manifests that potential through four main components: aquatics (existing), fitness and wellness, cultural, gathering and support spaces. A public process led by the City of Missoula Parks and Recreation will further refine and define these components.
The community center will be located in McCormick Park. McCormick Park is highly accessible and centrally located in the Heart of Missoula along the south side of the Clark Fork River. The McCormick Park Master Plan was developed through a citizens' engagement process to chart the future of McCormick Park. Since the Master Plan was completed and adopted the City of Missoula has made investments toward advancing that plan. One large component of the master plan is development of the community center. The areas surrounding McCormick Park has seen and will continue to see considerable development. Discussions about how to best integrate the community center into the neighboring infrastructure and meet the goals of the master plan will continue to advance.
